Welcome to Lupavaro.com, the website dedicated to our great passion for Italian Greyhounds.

The Italian Greyhound, often cited also with the abbreviating "IG" or “PLI”, is the smallest representative of group 10, ( that is the group of Sighthounds). We know for sure that IGs are an ancient race, already present in the court of Pharaohs of ancient Egypt.
From the V century A.C. approximately, they reached in Italy where they came soon appreciated in the noble courts.

It would be easy to think that this small dog from the delicate aspect is only a a beautiful ornament but beware from this appearance!!
In truth the Italian Greyhound is a true sportsman (or better sportsdog) that gladly follows his human friend in the activities of every day.
My dogs love to travel by car, to run on the beach, they love to take a walk in the city and they really love to be admired by the people, they are much skilful to dig big holes in the garden (to make envy to a mole) and they can carefully watch the herd of buffalos that graze pacifically on the pasture from Luigi’s fathers neighbor.

The IG is a dog extremely attached to his human friend, they love  to jump up in arm giving passionate kisses (they have an exceptional sight...!). They like to stay warm and if you don’t want to make them sleep in your bed, (they sleep rigorously UNDER the bed covers and strangely they never suffocate!), so put a couple of warm plaids in their hamper, they will appreciate this a lot.

To this I would spend some words about the housetraining of an IG: many people often says that this race is not so easy to housetrain and that they will often relieve himself inside our house. Physiologically they have an accelerated metabolism, more that large breeds, and for this they cannot  withhold theyself for many hours.

In the second place they dislike a lot to go out by rainy weather or when it is much cold outside:  they would prefer to stay in the warmth of the hamper (or better in you bed) and they succeed very well to provoke a sense of mercy in the human friend; in fact although the (poor) human has wrapped the “shaking” creature in the warm coat (bought in a hurry for the poor dog) the creature does not seem to have any intention to make pipi or pupu and so they return home soon and tadaaaaaaaaa: the little monster will be very glad to do pipi and pupu on your new carpet.

If you decide to take an IG don’t leave him alone for many hours, they are much sensitive and hate  lonelyness, they are able "to become sick of melancholy"  beyond they will say “Thank’s for leaving me alone all the day” with lakes and little brown mountains scattered in your house. Personally I have placed remedy to these "disadvantages" accustoming my dogs to a large box with sand for cats, therefore they can make pipi and pupu every time they want. My dogs live close with us and  with our 3 cats, therefore they are never alone.

I love this breed: they become your shadow and they live for you, they live for every word, every caress from your hands and all this without losing their dignity of sighthound. They love YOU in their own way, creating a tight and confidential relationship with them human friend.

Enjoy your IG!
